Call for Choreographers Pointeworks Season 3 Commissions

Pointeworks is seeking two choreographers to each create a new commissioned work for our upcoming Season 3, premiering June 2026 in La Jolla, California, with potential performances in New York City (funding dependent). This is an opportunity to collaborate with nationally recognized professional ballet artists in a supportive, process-driven environment.
We are a nonprofit ballet company dedicated to connecting artists and audiences through powerful, collaborative performance, with a strong focus on amplifying female voices and providing year-round opportunities for professional dancers.
Commission Opportunities
We are offering two separate commissions within this call:
1. NYC-Based Commission (January 2026)
Rehearsal Dates: January 5–17, 2026
Location: Manhattan, New York
Cast: 3–5 dancers (Pointeworks company artists)
Performance: Open Rehearsal Series in NYC Jan, Premieres June 2026 in La Jolla, California
Notes: Choreographer must be NYC-based or able to work locally (no travel or housing provided for creation period)
2. San Diego-Based Commission (May–June 2026)
Rehearsal Dates: May 25–June 12, 2026
Location: San Diego, California
Cast: 6–8 dancers (Pointeworks company artists)
Performance: Premieres June 2026 in La Jolla, California
Notes: Housing provided during the creation period
Length: Looking for a work of approximately 15 minutes
Commission Terms (for both works)
Project Fee: $5,000 total
Includes choreographer fee, music rights, and costume expenses
Also includes travel for one round-trip flight to California for the June 2026 performance (or rehearsal, if applicable)
Rehearsal Support: Studio space provided; housing offered for San Diego residency
Presentation: Both works will premiere in June 2026 as part of a mixed repertory program in La Jolla, CA. Additional performances in NYC are possible, pending funding.
What We’re Looking For
We are seeking choreographers with a distinct artistic voice, strong musicality, and a collaborative spirit. Artists of all styles and backgrounds are encouraged to apply. Pointeworks is committed to elevating underrepresented voices in ballet, and we especially welcome proposals from women, BIPOC, and LGBTQ+ artists.
