Our first fall season finale
Pointeworks made its Balboa Theatre debut with COMPOSITIONS: An Evening of Katie Jenkins, bringing dancers and musicians together for a celebration of original music and women’s choreographic voices.
The evening centered on the music of Pointeworks Resident Composer Katie Jenkins, performed live on stage. Three ballets offered distinct responses to her scores: Jacquelyn Long’s Moving Forces, Laine Habony’s Chasing Shadows, and the world premiere of Hélène Simoneau’s Where No Storms Come.
Created during Pointeworks’ July residency, Where No Storms Come brought five dancers and a live string quartet together in the company’s newest commission. Alongside the returning ballets and musical works, it shared the collaboration between composer, choreographers, dancers, and musicians that shaped the program from its earliest stages.
Opening doors to our community
Through our Community Seats initiative, complimentary invitations reached local organizations and community groups, helping remove ticket cost as a barrier to experiencing ballet and live music.
Our sponsored-seat outreach included Armed Services YMCA, ArtReach, Challenged Athletes Foundation, DanceStart / Samuel Lawrence Foundation, Foundation for Women Warriors, Just in Time for Foster Youth, Kinship Support Program, Promises2Kids, Ronald McDonald House, Sister League of San Diego, UC San Diego Student Mental Health & Wellness Committee, UC San Diego Women’s Center, and YMCA Kinship / YMCA of San Diego.

The program brought together Maine Chernjavsky, Louise Hautefueille, Ángel Ramírez, Marcos Ramirez, Kyle Torres-Hiyoshi, Sophie Williams, Rieko Hatato, Rayleigh Vendt, Nicole Von Enck, and Kate Inoue.
Thank you to the artists, audience members, patrons, and community partners who made this evening possible and helped bring Pointeworks’ first fall season to the stage.
