Museum Suite: A Collection Performed in Nine Movements
As part of The San Diego Museum of Art’s centennial celebrations, Museum Suite is a multidisciplinary exhibition exploring the dialogue between dance and visual art. Presented in nine movements, the project invites viewers into a space where performance and photography intersect—creating a dynamic conversation between past and present, motion and stillness.
A central component of Museum Suite features Pointeworks, whose artists collaborated closely with museum docent and photographer Douglas McMinimy during the company’s Season 2 rehearsals. Captured in intimate, behind-the-scenes moments, these photographs document the creative process as it unfolds—revealing how classical works from the Museum’s collection inspired movement, and how dancers’ bodies, in turn, offered new ways of seeing visual art.
In conjunction with the exhibition’s opening on Thursday, January 29, 2026, Pointeworks performed live in the galleries at the Museum of Photographic Arts at The San Diego Museum of Art in Balboa Park. This performance activated the space as a living stage, bringing the still images of Museum Suite into motion for an invited audience.
This digital gallery presents Pointeworks’ representation within Museum Suite—offering Ballet Society members an exclusive look at the photographs created during rehearsals, along with documentation from the opening night performance. Together, these materials reflect Pointeworks’ commitment to interdisciplinary collaboration and to expanding where and how ballet is experienced.
Museum Suite: A Collection Performed in Nine Movements is on view January 24 – July 12, 2026, celebrating the creative exchange between visual and performative arts and honoring the Museum’s relationship with San Diego’s vibrant dance community.
