Andrea Schermoly

Choreographer for Season 3

Andrea Schermoly is an internationally recognized choreographer and Resident Choreographer of Louisville Ballet. She has created and staged original works for companies worldwide, including Royal New Zealand Ballet, West Australian Ballet, Cincinnati Ballet, Oregon Ballet Theatre, BalletMet, Kansas City Ballet, Sacramento Ballet, Richmond Ballet, and Compania Nacional de Danza, among many others. She has also created works for acclaimed principal artists such as Maria Kochetkova and Joaquin de Luz.

Andrea directed and choreographed the dance film Rite of Spring for Louisville Ballet, which was named “the best pandemic film produced in the U.S.” by ARTS AIR. Her choreographic work extends to film, television, and commercial projects, including Beautiful Now, Bunheads, and a Super Bowl commercial for Budweiser.

She recently premiered a full-length Romeo and Juliet for Royal New Zealand Ballet, later restaged at West Australian Ballet, where it received the Performing Arts Award for Best Mainstage Production. Most recently, she premiered her full-length CARMEN for Charlotte Ballet.

Born in South Africa, Schermoly trained at The Royal Ballet School and Rambert School. Her professional dance career took her to Netherlands Dance Theater and Boston Ballet.

Schermoly continues to create both abstract and narrative works for companies across the globe. She will be joining us for Season 3 where she will restage her award-winning choreographic recreation of Romeo and Juliet.
