Jacquelyn Long

choreographer

Jacquelyn Long is a Houston-based dancer and choreographer originally from Virginia Beach, Virginia. She dances as a Soloist with the Houston Ballet, where she has been a member since 2012.

In 2018, Long participated in a choreographic workshop for women only called Elle Émerge. The pas de deux she created in the workshop “it just keeps going” was chosen to be performed by the Houston Ballet at the Cynthia Woods Mitchell Pavilion in 2019. This experience became the start of Long’s choreographic career that she has continued while still dancing professionally.

She has created 8 professional works at Houston Ballet, Houston Ballet II, and Ballet Virginia including her celebrated work Illuminate on Houston Ballet which debuted in 2023 and returned to the Wortham Theater in 2025. Houston Ballet’s Stanton Welch describes Long in choreography as, “She’s young and fearless, and that’s exactly what we want.”

Jacquelyn is a talented dancer with an extensive background in classical and contemporary ballet. Some leading roles she has performed include Stanton Welch’s Sylvia and Cinderella, Balanchine’s Theme and Variations, and Arthur Pita’s Good Vibrations. Long was inspired to explore choreography by the paths carved before her by female dancers in Houston Ballet, including that of Melody Mennite and Dani Rowe- two women whose work are also featured in Pointeworks programming.

Jacquelyn is commissioned to create a new work in collaboration with composer Katie Jenkins for Pointeworks Season 3. Her choreography period will begin in New York City this January.
