Composer’s Circle – Pre-Performance welcomed audiences into the Atkinson Room at The Conrad Prebys Performing Arts Center for an intimate, pre-show exploration of new music during Pointeworks’ Summer Season. Designed as a condensed, audience-facing version of Pointeworks’ Composer’s Circle series, the half-hour salon offered guests early access to the musical foundations of the evening’s performance.

The event featured composer Katie Jenkins and pianist Joshua Mhoon in a live discussion and performance centered on Chasing Shadows, a newly composed 10-minute piano score written for Pointeworks’ second season. Guests were guided through the score’s structure, emotional architecture, and musical motifs, gaining insight into the composer-performer collaboration and the role of music in shaping contemporary ballet before experiencing the work onstage.

Composer’s Circle – Pre-Performance reflects Pointeworks’ commitment to deepening audience engagement through access and context, offering patrons a richer understanding of new work before the curtain rises. Designed as a replicable pre-show model, the series provides presenters and partners with a compelling opportunity to enhance performances through intimate musical salons that foreground living composers, support new creation, and foster meaningful connection between artists and audiences.
