Pointeworks × Steps Academy NYC
Masterclass & Company Repertoire Collaboration
January 13 | Steps on Broadway Academy, New York City
On January 13, Pointeworks delivered a masterclass and company repertoire experience for the Pre-Professional program at Steps on Broadway Academy, offering students direct access to working professional artists and the creative processes behind contemporary ballet. Pointeworks dancer Kyle Torres-Hiyoshi led a ballet technique class emphasizing musicality, clarity, and artistry, followed by Pointeworks Artistic Director Sophie Williams staging the Wind Solo from Jacquelyn Long’s newly created ballet, Moving Forces.
The collaboration gave most students their first exposure to dancing a classical ballet work choreographed by a female creator, while studying new repertoire outside a traditional syllabus. Developed during Pointeworks’ New York City residency with six dancers, two musicians, and composer Katie Jenkins, Moving Forces positioned ballet as an evolving art form and introduced students to professional rehearsal practices and contemporary company expectations—supporting their preparation for future careers as professional ballet dancers.
