Museum Suite: A Collection performed in nine movements
The San Diego Museum of Art hosted an opening ceremony for a new exhibition pairing dance photography with live performance
San Diego-based photographer Doug McMinimy opened an exhibit with the incredible cultural landmark the San Diego Museum of Art in a gallery titled Museum Suite: A Collection Performed in Nine Movements. This gallery features images of Pointeworks dancers from rehearsals in Season 2 along with other dance styles from around the community in a harmonious collection showing the intricacies of dance capture in still form. At this event, the museum accompanied the opening of this collection of stills with live dance performances from dance companies from around the city including Pointeworks.
Doug’s images focussed on those special moments in rehearsals that you normally don’t see on stage or are too fast to absorb. His images highlighted hand positions, trust in partnering, and the grit needed to be effortless.
Attendees got a tour of the gallery and saw a performance of nine works including an excerpt of Chasing Shadows by Laine Habony presented by Pointeworks featuring two dancers Sophie Williams and AvaRose Dillon.
