Nocturnes – In Studio

An Open Rehearsal & Artist Conversation

January 15 | New York City Center, Studio 5

Nocturnes – In Studio welcomed guests into New York City Center’s Studio 5 for an intimate open rehearsal and conversation during Pointeworks’ January New York City creative residency. Centered on a new 15-minute ballet by choreographer Jacquelyn Long, set to an original score by composer Katie Jenkins, the evening invited audiences into the final stages of creation—offering rare access to new work on the threshold of completion.

Led by Pointeworks collaborator and rehearsal director Fabrice Herrault, the rehearsal featured dancers Sophie Williams, Rieko Hatato, Kyle Torres-Hiyoshi, AvaRose Dillon, Madeline Bez, and Heather Nichols, with audiences observing the refinement of musicality, structure, and choreographic detail in real time. An open dialogue with the artists followed, creating space for conversation around process, collaboration, and artistic decision-making. Designed to foster transparency and connection, Nocturnes – In Studio positions ballet as a living practice and offers a compelling, replicable model for partner institutions seeking to engage audiences through access, education, and meaningful artistic exchange.

By sharing the work in process—alongside live coaching, musical refinement, and open conversation—this event highlighted the art of collaboration at the heart of Pointeworks’ model and the rarity of inviting audiences into the studio while creation is actively unfolding.
