Choreo & Cocktails
An Intimate Studio Showing & Conversation Series
New York City | January Creative Residency
Featured Work: Moving Forces by Jacquelyn Long
Choreo & Cocktails welcomed a full-capacity audience of 48 guests into New York City Center’s Studio 5 for an intimate evening of choreography, conversation, and connection during Pointeworks’ January New York City creative residency. Centered on Moving Forces—a new ballet by choreographer Jacquelyn Long created during the residency—the evening offered audiences rare access to the creative process through an in-process studio showing paired with light drinks, live music, and informal conversation.
Set within the rehearsal space, guests experienced the full artistic ecosystem behind the work. Live music by violinist Julia Choi and pianist Joshua Mhoon accompanied the evening, while Pointeworks Rehearsal Director Fabrice Herrault led a rehearsal of the second-movement pas de deux, inviting the audience into the choreographic details, refinement, and nuanced process. Guests then viewed the ballet in its broader context, gaining insight into how individual sections live within the complete work. A collaborative photo experience with Jon Taylor further encouraged connection and celebration between artists and supporters.
By combining access, transparency, and hospitality, Choreo & Cocktails positions ballet as a living, collaborative art form while strengthening relationships between artists and community members. Designed as a replicable model, the series offers partner organizations and supporters the opportunity to co-host or underwrite future Choreo & Cocktails evenings—tailored to local audiences while directly supporting the creation of new ballet.
