Sophie Williams

Founder, Artistic Director, dancer

Sophie Williams founded Pointeworks in 2023 with the vision of creating a platform that champions collaboration, expands opportunities for artists, and amplifies female voices in ballet. Under her leadership, the company has commissioned new works, launched community programs like the Mentorship Program and Sponsor a Seat Program, and presented sold-out performances in San Diego and New York City, establishing the organization as a dynamic new voice in the national dance landscape.

Drawing on her rich international career as a professional dancer, Williams brings a deep understanding of both classical tradition and contemporary innovation to her artistic direction. She has performed with the Royal New Zealand Ballet, touring nationally throughout New Zealand, as well as with companies across the United States including Texas Ballet Theater, Richmond Ballet, Ballet San José, BalletMet, and Aspen Santa Fe Ballet.

At Pointeworks, Williams curates all artistic programming, commissions new choreography and original music, and oversees both the artistic and administrative operations of the organization. She is deeply committed to fostering the creation of new work, supporting dancers through off-season employment, and elevating women choreographers and collaborators through sustainable, forward-thinking production models. Through Pointeworks’ residencies, performances, and community engagement initiatives, Williams continues to shape an inclusive and innovative vision for ballet today.
