Season III Jacquelyn Long Featured in Pointe Magazine

We are so thrilled to share that Pointeworks choreographer Jacquelyn Long has been featured in the latest issue of Pointe Magazine, one of the ballet world's leading publications.

The article highlights Jacquelyn's remarkable rise as both a dancer and choreographer, from her acclaimed work with Houston Ballet to the upcoming world premiere of her newest ballet, Moving Forces, created for Pointeworks and debuting June 13 at The Conrad in La Jolla.

Reflecting on her choreographic voice, Jacquelyn shares:

"I hyper-focus on musicality. I try to make ballets that make the audience happy and celebrate what I trained and worked on so much."

Speaking about balancing both careers, she adds:

"I can be a successful dancer and a choreographer at the same time. I'm living that truth right now."

JACQUELYN on MOVING FORCES:

“There are six dancers—five women and one man. The man represents Earth. He interacts with three fire women in the first movement; there are moments of warmth, but in the end he feels like he’s burning. The second movement is a pas de deux with the water women, who console him but have to let him go, just as the land and ocean meet at the shore. The last movement starts with the wind women, who bring together all the elements in a celebratory and harmonious dance.”

RESIDENT COMPOSER OF POINTEWORKS

Resident Composer, Katie Jenkins, collaborated with Jacquelyn’s on this project breathing deeper life into MOVING FORCES.

Together, the two shared ideas and concepts with each other, ultimately choosing to express through the form of THREE MOVEMENTS.

The ballet begins with a fiery first movement, leading into a romantic second that quickly sweeps in. Closing with a vibrant third movement, the finale brings everything together, resulting in a beautifully expressed collaboration.
