Step Inside Hélène Simoneau's New Pointeworks Commission
Our July 2026 residency offered a first look at the creation of Where No Storms Come, a powerful new contemporary ballet by acclaimed choreographer Hélène Simoneau with an original score by Pointeworks Resident Composer Katie Jenkins.
This intimate studio process brought together five extraordinary dancers — Marcos Ramirez, Angel Ramirez, Nicole Von Enck, Sophie Williams, and Maine Chernjavsky — alongside a live string quartet featuring Jeremy Klein, Robbie Bui, Francesca Fetten, and Veronika Manchur.

These behind-the-scenes rehearsals offered a rare opportunity to watch choreographer, composer, musicians, and dancers collaborate in real time—an artistic process audiences seldom have the chance to experience.
Originally from Québec, Hélène Simoneau is a Guggenheim Fellow and New York City Center Choreography Fellow whose work has been commissioned by The Juilliard School, BalletX, Oregon Ballet Theatre, Charlotte Ballet, and The Ailey School, among many others. Pointeworks was honored to welcome her for this new commission.
These pay-what-you-can rehearsals welcomed audiences into the creative process.
Created ahead of its October 18 world premiere at the Balboa Theatre, the work will be performed to live music and offers audiences a rare opportunity to witness choreography and composition evolving together in real time.
Where No Storms Come explores the depths of human emotion through the metaphor of the ocean—reflecting the fluidity of relationships, the invisible pressures of life, and the beauty of resilience. The choreography balances strength and vulnerability, inviting audiences into a world where tension, release, and hope coexist.
